Emergency Food and Shelter Program

Thanks to your generosity, 376 people who lost everything in a fire, flood or other disaster received food, clothing and temporary shelter.

The federal government provides local communities throughout the United States with dollars to support emergency food and shelter initiatives through the Federal Emergency Management Act (FEMA).  A local board of directors meets twice a year to assess community needs and allocate these dollars to appropriate organizations.  United Way serves as the conduit for these funds and coordinates the administrative functions of the Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) Local Board.

The following organizations currently receive EFSP funds through the Local Board for Spartanburg and Union Counties:
  • Salvation Army, Spartanburg
  • Salvation Army, Union
  • Greer Relief & Resources Agency
  • The Haven
  • Miracle Hill Rescue Mission
  • Divinity Care Facility
  • Piedmont Community Actions
  • Middle Tyger Community Center (District 5 Family Ministries)
  • Greater Spartanburg Ministries
  • Meals on Wheels of Union
  • SAFE Homes/Rape Crisis Coalition
  • Helping Hands of Woodruff
  • Bethlehem Center
