In today's fast-paced world, creating work-life balance can be a constant struggle. United Way's Young Leader’s Society provides an easy yet powerful way for young men and women to re-connect with their communities, meet new people, and make a meaningful impact on the lives of others. MissionTo inspire young professionals to employ their time, talent and resources to effect lasting change in our community.
 
YLS seeks to:
  • Connect individuals to increase the level of volunteerism
  • Serve our community where it is needed most
  • Lead by example through YL projects and service programs.
A Young Leader is...
 
A person age 21-40 (ish) who wants to get involved in making our community a better place for us all. They Give One hour a month of volunteer time and/or a minimum of $100 a year to the United Way Community Impact Fund.  When you contribute to the Community Impact Fund, you are making an investment in the lives of individuals who are touched by initiatives and programs addressing  the most critical needs in our community
 
YLS members will be recognized at various levels of involvement both for monetary contributions and volunteer time.   To document volunteer time, complete the Volunteer Time Sheet and fax to 594-9826. Monetary contributions may be made through United Way workplace campaigns, individual gifts and online.
 
You can help to shape the future of YLS by helping with the following: 
Membership & Development Committee
 
Sets membership criteria and determines best methods of growing and engaging membership that is demographically and geographically diverse. Also responsible for solicitation of funds including corporate sponsors, individuals and potential challenge grant prospects 
 
Marketing & Events Committee
 
Works closely with UW staff to create all aspects of YLS image and brand.  Will oversee all aspects of collateral materials, media relations, advertising, presentations and newsletters as well as assist various other committees as needed. Also determines the types of volunteer educational and/or social events sponsored by YLS and works to plan and implement events.
 
Young Leaders Award                                   
Each year, The Walter S. Montgomery, Sr. Young Leader Award  honors a young leader of the community who exhibits uncommon generosity, involvement and leadership in serving human service organizations and initiatives. Read about this year's recipient.
